They can seem like a handy payment option, but what should Gen Z know about Buy Now Pay Later? And what are the long-term implications for using these BNPL apps?

In Australia, Gen Zs are among the biggest users of Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) payment options for both luxuries and essentials. For some people, it comes in handy when finances are tight, but for others, it can be a money trap.

This week, Ben and Anoushka speak to youth sociologist Dr Julia Cook, from the University of Newcastle, about the gamified features and the longer-term impacts of some BNPL apps. They also chat to Lily, a student who found BNPL useful, and some other students who were a bit more wary.
